Craft Beer Evolution

Saturday 11th saw the second year of Craft Beer Evolution and what a success it was! We were delighted with the turn out and so happy to host and celebrate some fantastic breweries.

Craft Beer Evolution is a free entry festival hosted each year at our tap room on Walker Road. We celebrate the modern brewing scene by showcasing the incredible diversity of beers we have available to us and invite brewers/industry members to talk to the public about the ever evolving beer movement.

Falling in January, Craft Beer Evolution 2020 was the perfect opportunity to celebrate #tryanuary. A movement supporting independent beer businesses throughout January. In light of this, we bought beer from 10 different breweries, invited the brewers down, and showcased their beer at the taproom.

Breweries showcasing beer were: London Beer Factory, Steam Machine, Brinkburn Street, Allendale, Rigg & Furrow, Cullercoats, Northern Alchemy, S43, Durham brewery and Revolution Brew co.

The beauty of beer is its incredible range of styles and we wanted to fully exhibit this, from Northern Alchemy’s Pineapple & Passionfruit Sour to our own Belgian Cherry Dubbel we had the lot! Full beer list is shown at the bottom:

We were joined by Carl from CRISP malt for a special talk on the importance of high quality malts, the significance speciality malts have and how best to use them. Carl has a wealth of knowledge from years in the industry and it was an honour to have him at the taproom.

Providing the live music in the evening were the fantastic Dunes, Single Black Olive & 45 Spread. Spinning the beats on the DJ set was the incredible Seek Magik.

Now no food festival is complete without top class bait, and our residents Kogarashi made sure everyone got their bao bun fix whilst Fire & Dough kept the pizza cravings calm with their wood-fired pizzas.

We want to say thank you so much to each and every person that came down to celebrate these fantastic breweries, listen to some top class bands and enjoy the food on offer. Supporting local businesses is so important and it allows events like Craft Beer Evolution to take place.

Here’s to next year’s festival!
