Benefits of Beer

Reduces the risk of heart disease

In a study at the Institute of Epidemiology at the University of Muenster, moderate beer drinking was shown to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease by increasing HDL or good cholesterol levels and reducing the chances of hardening of the arteries and thickening of the blood: two main contributors to heart attacks. This corralates with a scientific study in the British Medical Journal findings that found alcohol has a beneficial blood thinning effect and reduces the tendency of blood to form clots.

Good source of Vitamin B6

According to a study conducted at the TNO Nutrition and Food Research Institute in the Netherlands, beer drinkers were found to have 30% higher levels of vitamin B6 in their blood then compared to non beer drinkers & twice the amount generally found in red wine drinkers.  Vitamin B6 aids brain activity, metabolism and nerve function.

Preserves mental faculties and bone density

A Harvard conducted study showed moderate alcohol consumption assisted in preserving the mental faculties of older women, while a Tufts University study concluded alcohol can help preserve bone density, the Harvard study was later published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Breakdown carcinogens

Although reasearch is in early stages, preliminary studies show xanthohumol, a compound found in hops, may help aid the body in the breaking down of carcinogens and in the inhibitting of known cancer triggering enzymes.

Beer beats water for rehydration

Recently researchers at Granada University in Spain have conducted a study that they believe has determined that beer can actually aid the bodies recovery from strenuous exercise better than water. Researchers attribute this to the sugars, salts, and gases in beer enhancing the body's ability to absorb water. The bubbles quench thirst while the carbohydrates in beer help refill calorie deficits.
