Earlier this week we hosted Northumbria University Ale & Cider Society for a brewday. Long term friends of the brewery they wanted to brew some beers to put on sale at CAMRA's Newcastle Beer & Cider Festival in a couple of weeks.
A few members of the society escaped lectures and came down to the brewery on Tuesday to brew a Breakfast Pale Ale with honey, oats, blackberries and blueberries. Expected to be around 5.5%, the beer will hopefully be full bodied with a complex sweetness, balanced by refreshing fresh berry notes.
The day was a success, with the students mucking in on our pilot kit to brew the recipe designed by President Graham Armstrong and myself. The beer will be racking into a firkin and will be on sale at the beer festival from 15th - 18th April, or from the 15th til it runs out!
It will be alongside a Vanilla Stout which the society brewed with our neighbours Out There Brewing Co. which should compliment the Breakfast Pale nicely. Members from the society will be on hand on the Wednesday of the festival, and are working the bar on the Friday evening. See you there.
