Currently being enjoyed at the Newcastle Beer Festival, this months special is Farmhouse Saison. Our first interpretation of this popular Belgian style, the beer is a refreshing golden ale brewed with Belgian yeast, sweet orange peel and coriander.
Saison's were originally brewed on farms in the French speaking region of Belgium to slake the thirst of travelling farm workers. Historically they were brewed during the cold winter months to avoid the beer spoiling, and to stockpile for the busy summer months when seasonal workers, or les saisonniers, would seek out the farms who brewed the best beers. Before long those beers were brewed on a commercial scale, with the best still in production today.
We are really pleased with how the beer is tasting, it's earthy, yeast led flavour carries a juicy orange character with a slightly dry, spicy finish and plenty of funky, Belgian character.
